When you get a top-notch Apple device, you'll want to keep it in great shape for as long as possible. A few simple phone care tips can go a long way in making sure that your iPhone stays together for the long haul. While many of the tips you might pick up from fellow users are pretty obvious, some of them aren't.
For instance, did you know that if your phone is hot to the touch that you should turn it off? The same actually goes for iPads and even Android tablets. Overheating generally happens because the CPU has been taxed to the limit. It's especially a problem if you're a hardcore mobile gamer or VR consumer who runs some really intensive apps. If this is the case, then you'll want to give your phone a break from time to time.
Clean Out Your iPhone
While you might think that your slow phone can only be sped up by professional iPhone repair services, there are several things you can do to keep it running smoothly on your own. One of the biggest drawbacks to having a high-resolution camera built into your phone is that the physical file size of all those photos that it takes can start to weigh down the device. The iOS system software has to keep track of all those photos and videos, so take a few moments to delete your duplicates. You might want to back them up to your MacBook or your PC as well.
Clearing out old text messages can be a bit of a pain, so set them to automatically delete after 30 days. You can do this in the settings menu that the standard SMS text provides. Speaking of apps, you should delete any unused apps that are just taking up room on your home screen without doing anything useful anymore. You may even wish to get rid of some of the default ones.
Cut Back on Notifications
Your iPhone's battery will last much longer if you cut down on the number of notifications that appear on your lock screen. While these little accessories can help you see your alerts quickly, they'll take a toll on your battery life because the CPU inside of your phone needs to parse code from every single app tied to the lock screen. You can select the Settings menu and then tap Notifications to turn some of these off.
While you're in the Settings menu, take a look at the Usage tab in the General sheet. There's a Battery Usage option there. If you tap it, then you'll see a list of apps currently running that consume battery life. Disabling some of these will make your battery last longer and also ultimately extend not only the life of the battery but also the phone itself. Each app using battery power is also forcing the microchips inside your phone to do work, which can wear them out over time. Disabling things you don't use gives priority to things you do as well, which can also make your phone seem more snappy. If it seems to be slower now than when you bought it, then it might be because of a large number of apps running during idle periods.
